These videos are for use solely by school staff and this is a reminder that it remains schools responsibility to ensure they keep a record of staff accessing this training.

Benedicts Law

Benedict's Law comes into force across schools in England in September 2026, making comprehensive allergy safety and training a mandatory statutory requirement . 

Key Requirements for Schools

  • Whole-School Allergy Policy: Every school must write, publish, and display a clear allergy policy on its website. This policy is separate from general medical rules. 

  • Mandatory Staff Training: All staff members must receive allergy awareness and emergency training. Training covers spotting symptoms, handling emergencies, and using adrenaline devices.

  • Spare Emergency Injectors: Schools must keep spare, in-date adrenaline auto-injectors on site for any child or adult who suffers sudden anaphylaxis. 

  • Individual Healthcare Plans: Pupils with severe allergies must have clear, up-to-date medical and action plans in place. 

  • Incident Tracking: Schools must log all allergic reactions and near-misses, review the causes, and share the findings with parents and governors.
