Children's therapies
The Children’s Therapy Service consists of Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy.
We aim to give children, young people and their families the information they need, as well as ideas and strategies to support development of functional skills, so they become as confident and as independent as possible.
We are a team of therapists and therapy assistants who work in the community, to provide assessment, intervention and management to children who have been identified as needing specialist support.
Services are mostly clinic-based with visits to homes, nurseries and schools as clinically required. We also have a team of therapists and therapy assistants who work in Sherwood Park School. All qualified staff are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and work to their standards.
We often work in partnership with other professionals from health, education and social care. We focus on developing the skills and knowledge of key adults (parents / carers and nursery / school staff) who can support children’s development in everyday life and across different situations.
Therapy works best when those who spend most time with the child put the Therapist's ideas and suggestions into practice on a regular basis. We will support you to do this.
If your child is referred to our services it is important that you attend all appointments booked. Please contact the department as soon as possible if you are unable to attend any appointments. Your child may be discharged from the service if you miss an appointment without letting us know.
