Starting School This September? Join Our Teddy Bears' Picnic!

Is your little one starting school this September? Are they ready for the exciting journey ahead?

Join our School Nursing Team and local Children’s Centres for a fun and friendly Teddy Bears' Picnic this summer — a perfect opportunity to enjoy some family time while picking up helpful tips and advice to support your child’s school readiness.

  • Mellows Park, Wallington – Tuesday 29 July 2025, 11.30am – 1.30pm
  • Manor Park, Sutton – Monday 4 August 2025, 11.30am – 1.30pm
  • Cheam Park, Cheam – Wednesday 13 August 2025, 11.30am – 1.30pm

Bring your lunch, your child, and of course, their favourite teddy bear! You’ll find fun activities for the children and friendly professionals ready to offer support and guidance on all things school-readiness. Our School Nurses and Children’s Centre staff will be on hand to give advice on:

  • Child development
  • Healthy eating
  • Sleeping and bedtime routines
  • Behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Toileting and self-care
  • Managing anxiety
  • Dental care and constipation
  • Immunisation advice

Top tips for getting school ready:

  • A consistent bedtime routine helps children feel safe and well-rested
  • Most children need 10–12 hours of sleep a night – getting up at the same time each morning helps build a healthy routine
  • Encouraging independence with toileting, dressing and eating supports school confidence

Remember – every child is different and develops at their own pace. If you have any questions or concerns, support is always available from your Early Years setting, local Children’s Centre, Health Visiting or School Nursing Service.

In case of bad weather, please check our Facebook page for updates before setting off: www.facebook.com/suttonhealthvisiting

We look forward to seeing you and your teddy bear there!
